Tunisia: Digital solutions for high-quality journalism

MEDIA LOVES TECH is an upcoming competition that brings together high-quality journalism with Tunisia's startup scene.

What happens when Tunisia takes a new approach to journalism? Journalism that's innovative, digital and business-oriented?

The MEDIA LOVES TECH project brings together Tunisia's media scene with the country's young startups. They've known little about each other so far but together will explore new opportunities and approaches.

The Competition

The competition has two rounds, initiated by DW Akademie and its local partner AlKhatt, an NGO. In the first round, startup teams and creative individuals can submit concepts of how to advance Tunisia's journalism using digital solutions. The deadline for submissions is October 4, 2018.

Ten winners will then be picked, each receiving a 1000 euro grant to continue developing their ideas. DW Akademie and AlKhatt will mentor them, and from October 22-24 also hold a two-day conference on media viability. Following the conference, the winners will take part in a hackathon.

The competition's second round will run until November 27, 2018, where the teams or individuals will continue to develop their prototypes. They'll then have a chance to win the competition's top prize: 10,000 euros.

MEDIA LOVES TECH is funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
