You are a journalist and publish online and on social media.

You published an article in 2019 which covers important global topics from a local perspective. This could be climate change, the influx of refugees or education, for example.

DW Akademie aims to strengthen quality journalism by implementing media projects worldwide. For the first time we will be presenting an award for online journalists. The topic is: “Think globally – act locally” in Morocco.

Journalists or teams with journalistic content that was originally published online in 2019 may apply.

The three best submissions will be awarded in Casablanca in December. The first prize winner will receive 3,500 euros, the second prize winner 1,500 euros and the third prize winner 1,000 euros.

Our criteria:

• A compelling approach demonstrating how global trends impact locally
• An original and well-told story that we have never read before
• A format that uses the possibilities of online journalism
• Competent and extensive research, documented upon the submission of the article

Requirements:

• The article was published online in a Moroccan media outlet between September 30, 2018 and October 1, 2019
• The article was published in Arabic or French
• If there were several authors, all author names must be specified
• A document setting out the research, in particular the underlying sources, must be handed in with the article (for investigative journalism, the jury may take into account justified exceptions)
• The new deadline is November 24, 2019. Delayed entries will not be considered. Incomplete applications or those which do not contain all necessary information will also not be considered.

The jury is composed of Deutsche Welle editors and other renowned journalists.

An appeal against the jury’s decision is not possible.
