Kenya: Reporting on the East African Community

The East African Community (EAC) comprises five member states: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. The EAC's main goal is to improve the living conditions of the people in its member states, through improved political cooperation and the establishment of a customs union to boost economic growth.

One of the most important aspects of reporting on the EAC is to make the subject comprehensible for listeners and viewers and to package it in an appropriately attractive way for the respective medium.

The training course focused first on basic economic terminology and the basics of economic and business reporting. Before producing their respective radio and TV packages, the participants researched aspects of the EAC process from economic, political and social points of view.

DW Akademie already addressed the subject of reporting on the EAC in previous training courses: in 2007, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and in 2008 in Arusha, Tanzania - the headquarters of the East African Community. In the next phase of the training program, courses will be held in the EAC member states Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi.
