Georgian media have, in the past few years, faced numerous hurdles as the government is courted by both the West and Russian influence. Recent research examines the state of independent media in the country, press freedom and media pluralism.

A new report evaluates journalist safety; current politically motivated cases against critical media figures; government boycotts of these representatives; disinformation campaigns; and media independence from political and other influences; and the main challenges facing the sector.

This publication is part of the project 'Quality Media and Conscious Media Consumption for Resilient Society (ConMeCo)', implemented by the DW Akademie in cooperation with the Media Development Foundation and the Human Rights Center, funded by the European Union in Georgia and co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
