At the beginning of September, the second cohort of the Master francophone en journalisme international (MFJI) began its first academic year in Bonn. DW Akademie runs the program in collaboration with the École publique de journalisme de Tours (EPJT) and the Université de Tours.

"I encourage you to remain curious and ask questions," said Prof. Dr. Christoph Schmidt, Head of Academic Education and Training at DW Akademie, while welcoming the new MFJI students. "The diversity of your experiences and perspectives makes this program unique," he continued.

The program is aimed at media professionals from French-speaking countries in North and West Africa. The first two semesters take place at DW Akademie in Bonn. Students then spend the third and part of the fourth semester at the École Publique de Journalisme de Tours. The fourth semester concludes with a three-month internship in the student's home country, which can be completed with a DW Akademie project partner.

The first MFJI class in 2024 was welcomed with a ceremony at the French Embassy in Berlin

International Media Studies: DW Akademie's wealth of experience

With MFJI, DW Akademie is expanding on its many years of experience with the English-language International Media Studies (IMS) program, who also welcomed its newest class. Both programs are financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The IMS program now boasts over 300 alumni, with the opening event of the 16th IMS cohort occurring earlier this week in Bonn. Here, too, students from all over the world with diverse experiences and talents come together.

“I hope to share with peers how journalism can transform perspectives and paths,” said scholarship holder Martha Karime Vazquez. “Drawing on my experience in Mexico, where practicing in free and safe spaces is a challenge, I want to build a network of learning and openness.”

The IMS is aimed at students from all over the world who aspire toward meaningful positions as journalists in radio, television, online and print media, as well as communications experts.
