Zooming in on Media and Information Literacy: A survey-based typology of young media users

Based on a three-country study, five profiles of potential beneficiaries are presented to help MIL practitioners envisage the needs of their clientele.

While the young generation is often portrayed as a monolithic block of "digital natives,” evidence from representative surveys in Jordan, Moldova and Uganda suggests that 15-35-year-olds have a wide variety of skills.

The data from the studies was used to identify five typical MIL personae across the three countries: MIL novices, MIL intermediates, MIL experts, digital literacy veterans and news literacy veterans. Read the study to find out more about the strengths and weaknesses of these potential MIL beneficiaries and how MIL practitioners can best address them.
