Strengthening Mauritania's resilience against disinformation

The media and information landscape of Mauritania has a number of structural features that make it particularly vulnerable to disinformation. To help combat the rise of disinformation in Mauritania, DW Akademie recently embarked on a new project in the country.

The white paper (available for download below) was developed within the framework of the German Foreign Office project "Ready for the Future: An Explorer Lab on Disinformation," implemented by DW Akademie as a partner for international media development. It is based on extensive discussions and findings gathered during workshops with international experts and Mauritanian participants that took place in Nouakchott during 13-19 December 2024, complemented by further background research.

The paper provides an overview of the media landscape in Mauritania, presenting key issues related to disinformation. It concludes with recommendations on actionable next steps through which Mauritania can strengthen its resilience against disinformation and support a more informed and engaged citizenry.
