Voices from the projects

Ukraine: "MediaFit", 2021 - 2024

Empowering media in southern and eastern Ukraine

The MediaFit project boosts news quality and ensures media resilience in Ukraine, addressing hybrid threats, including those from the COVID-19 pandemic. DW Akademie partners with Ukrainian CSOs to support independent regional media and journalists, ensure their continuity, improve content quality, and combat disinformation. Public media is also supported to ensure the delivery of reliable
content. This is even more vital since the beginning of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The EU-funded project MediaFit developed the player-driven game "In Search of Truth" that aims at enhancing teenagers' fact-checking skills. MIL trainers can apply online and offline versions of the game as an interactive learning element.

Brazil: "Floresta em pé", 2024 – 2026

A digital network to communicate productive and sustainable territories in the Amazon

The initiative establishes a digital communications network in nine territories of traditional communities in the Amazon region, managed by indigenous CSOs. Young entrepreneurs, empowered to use the network, promote productive activities and its sustainable replication. Trained local media and women’s groups use digital and analog formats, encouraging participation from community members in thematic groups.

"The Floresta Digital project is an innovative and unique experience. We hope it can benefit the entire population of the territories, including our youth and people who already work. It's fundamental for us to communicate how we surveil and protect our territories, because there is a lot of appropriation of land and hardwoods, and illegal mines. So, we want to empower ourselves with our radio and our networks." – Josias Souza, Traditional leader of the Satere Mawe People, Brazil Image: Nils Brock/DW

Bangladesh, Myanmar: "Digital Spaces for Dialogue", 2025 – 2028

Strengthen the voice of youth in digital public discourse about conflict resolution and peacebuilding

The project fosters dialogue between youth from diverse ethnic communities in Myanmar and its diaspora in neighboring countries, particularly in Bangladesh. The Project builds the capacity of three CSOs, youth and media actors to strengthen youth voices in public discourse through innovative digital formats. It includes the Rohingya who had to flee Myanmar and now live in camps in Bangladesh.
