US President Joe Biden has met with China's President Xi Jinping in California in an effort to ease tensions between the two superpowers.

The US and China, the world’s first and second-largest economies respectively, have been engaged in an escalating trade war. Fears of a military confrontation over Taiwan have also raised the prospect of a new Cold War.
